Contributory Aged Parents Migration Visa (Class DG, Subclass 864)

This visa was introduced on 1st July 2003. It is a permanent migration to allow parents living in Australia to remain with their children for the rest of their lives.  Parents applying for this visa must be over the retirement age in Australia, or one member of a marriage or partnership must be over the retirement age - see our List of Parent Visas for these benchmark ages. There is no restriction on country of citizenship (as there is on some of the visas for young people). In addition, parents can work in Australia and take advantage of the national medical cover, Medicare. So this is a great opportunity.

Although this is a capped visa, with limited places, the arrangements allow an extra 3,500 parents to apply if they are prepared to contribute to the costs of their health and welfare.  It is worth sending in your application promptly to take advantage of the extra places and get Priority Processing over the non-Contributory Parent Visas.

With this visa you can build your own house in Australia, or buy an existing house. Many larger houses have what we call a "Granny flat", so if your children have a property like this you can all live together. Or it may be possible to add the Granny flat to the home where your children live now.
